Space Launch

This is a visual representation of world wide space launches from 2011 to 2012. From January 20th, 2011 to December 19th, 2012, 159 space launches were made from 17 launch locations across the world. Satellites, manned space crafts, orbiters and other objects were sent into 6 different orbits. In this 2 dimensional installation, the horizontal axis represents the geographical location of the 17 launch locations on earth; the vertical axis plus the colored balls represents the orbit heights, or the destination of the 159 launches. 2 telescopes were placed at each end of the studio, people were able to use the telescope to see the “satellites”

A legend is place at ground level to help the audience understand the installation. Full names of the launch sites are spelled out to correspond with the abbreviations on the redwood. Space vehicles operating on different obits are being represented in different colored balls.
